The Saudi-led Arab coalition in Yemen announced on Saturday that it has destroyed a SAM 6 anti-aircraft missile system belonging for the Iran-backed Houthis in Sanaa.
The coalition said that its possession of such a system threatens air navigation and relief efforts, reported Al-Arabiya.net.
It vowed that it will prevent the terrorist group from acquiring capabilities that could threaten air navigation.
Separately, coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said Saturday that the alliance intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile fired at the Saudi city of Jizan. A day earlier, it intercepted a missile fired from Yemen’s Amran region at Saudi Arabia’s Najran city.
The Houthis have so far launched 177 ballistic missiles at the Kingdom, Maliki said.
On the ground, coalition jets intensified their strikes on Houthi gatherings throughout Yemen, including military targets surrounding Sanaa.
This coincided with the national army’s launching of a new military operation to liberate Qania and Fadha in the al-Malajem district in the al-Baydha province.
The operation led to the liberation of the al-Fahdhatein mountains and Aashar and al-Arif crossings, revealed a popular resistance source to Asharq Al-Awsat.
The operation was kicked off as fighting continued in the Hiran region in the Hajjah border province, as well as the Taiz and Marib fronts. The battles left major losses in life and equipment among the Houthi ranks.
On the western front, the Amaleqa Brigades seized control of the police headquarters, as well as the local council and health center deep in the Duraihimi district south of Hodeidah.
The Houthis have taken civilians as human shields as the legitimate forces continued their advance in the region, a military source told Asharq Al-Awsat.
