The Saudi-led Arab coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen announced that it carried out on early Wednesday a sophisticated operation against Iran-backed Houthi militia targets in Yemen.

Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said that the operation targeted a Houthi drones manufacturing plant and a store containing launch pads.

He said that the operation was part of a series of others aimed at destroying the Houthis’ drone capabilities.

The coalition is committed to preventing the delivery of such sophisticated weapons to the Houthis and other terrorist groups, vowed Maliki.

The alliance will take all necessary measures to protect civilians and vital locations against the threat of drone terrorist attacks, he added.

The operations against the Houthis are in line with International Humanitarian Law, he stated. The joint coalition command has taken all necessary precautions to protect civilians when carrying out its operations.

The Houthis, on the other hand, have transformed residential neighborhoods and civilian areas into military factories to booby-trap drones, manufacture mines, ballistic missiles and explosives and store weapons, he charged.

Maliki accused the militias of using civilians as human shields in flagrant and blatant violation of International Humanitarian Law.
