Aquarium a new delight at KSR Bengaluru railway station

BENGALURU: Imagine a bright red octopus glaring at you out of a wall at a bustling railway station. Now, you can experience this and more at the Aquatic Kingdom at KSR Bengaluru railway station.

In India's first, the KSR Bengaluru City railway station is now hosting a tunnel aquarium with not just corals, but alligator gar, sting rays, eels, lobsters, snails, shrimps and even sharks. An initiative of the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Ltd. (IRSDC) along with HNi Aquatic Kingdom, the movable freshwater tunnel aquarium was inaugurated on Thursday by two visitors to the venue -- one Mohammed Ismail and Samriddhi Jain, a child. Little Jain was awestruck by what she saw.

Themed on the Amazon river, the tunnel aquarium features a 12-foot-long paludarium with exotic fish and murals. Visitors are greeted by a giant red model of an octopus and behind its doors is a variety of marine life. The new aquatic complex also has a 3D spot where visitors can click selfies.

"The aquarium is designed with security features such as CCTVs and fire safety. The area is wheelchair-accessible and Covid protocols will be followed at all times," said Ashok Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru.

Railways will charge Rs 25 per visitor and will permit only 25 visitors at a time.
