Former New England Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib officially announced his retirement after 12 seasons on Wednesday.
Talib spent time with four teams over his career — accumulating a Super Bowl win, First-Team All-Pro honors and five Pro Bowl nods. He recorded 462 tackles, 125 passes deflected, 35 interceptions, 10 touchdowns and five forced fumbles.
He had an extremely decorated career, along with an incredible relationship with Bill Belichick. During his announcement to retire and switch over to NFL media, Talib gave a shoutout to Belichick. Talib said he received a call from Belichick about joining the Patriots in 2020, but he couldn’t accept.

The Patriots have a stacked cornerback crew right now with Stephon Gilmore, J.C. Jackson, Jason McCourty and Jonathan Jones. The addition of Talib would’ve been a scary sight for any wide receivers crossing New England’s path.
