'April fool!' - Some QPR fans are saying the same thing as Steve McClaren is sacked by the Rs

Steve McClaren has left Queens Park Rangers today (Monday) after a poor run of form - and some fans have been left confused by the timing of the announcement.

It was confirmed by the club shortly before 12pm that the former England manager had left the club with immediate effect, following a poor run of form in the league in the calendar year of 2019, with just one win in the Championship since Boxing Day.

McClaren has been in charge at Loftus Road for 46 fixtures, winning 16, drawing nine and losing 21, but with just one win in their last 15 Championship games.

QPR CEO Lee Hoos said: "Making a decision such as this is never easy, particularly when you are talking about someone as professional and dedicated as Steve.

"We are grateful to him for all of his efforts during his time with us. It is well documented that we are in a period of transition as we work hard to make the club financially stable. With that comes challenges, not least the cutting of the wage bill while aiming to remain competitive.

Everything QPR boss Steve McClaren had to say on Bolton loss, relegation and Rangel's confusion

"As we look to the future, and taking recent results into account, we feel now is the right time to re-evaluate where we are."

John Eustace has taken over first-team affairs in the interim period as the search for a new manager begins, with QPR facing a trip to face Championship leaders Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday.

But some QPR fans were left questioning the timing of the statement from the club, coming before 12pm on April Fool's Day, when it is often customary for spoof stories to be published with the intention of duping readers.

And this was a fact that was not lost on some QPR fans, as can be seen below.

But some other QPR fans have been questioning what comes next for the Rs as they reacted to the news of McClaren's exit, as can be seen below.
