
Visitors enjoy the sight and fragrance of wisteria at Kisshoji temple in Kitakyushu. Five varieties of wisteria -- including trees of a purple variety that are believed to be about 160 years old -- grow on trellises that sprawl across roughly 1,000 square meters in the temple grounds. The flowers at Kisshoji began blooming about 10 days earlier than usual.
