Apprenticeships at Microsoft: In the week 07/02/11

Apprenticeships: Software giant Microsoft plans to create 1,000 apprenticeships in London over the next three years, according to the BBC. All the apprenticeships Microsoft is creating are technical in nature, including software development, tech support and technical sales.
The company intends to deliver the apprenticeships through a network of small and medium-sized enterprise IT partners in the capital.

Call centre: Retailer John Lewis is creating 200 jobs at its call centre in Scotland, according to the BBC. The jobs will support gift list services and customer orders, taking the number of staff at the centre in Hamilton Technology Park to 650 by the end of the year, reports the Press Association.

Leisure: A new cinema due to open late spring will create 25 new jobs in Newquay. WTW Cinemas, which has branches across Cornwall, is now recruiting for a range of full and part-time vacancies including assistant managers, technical assistants, floor staff, ushers and cleaners.

HR: Over-50s specialist Saga says it intends to create 1,000 new jobs with expansion of its operation in Kent over the next 12 months. The firm – which specialises in a range of products for over-50s, including insurance, finance and holidays – is creating the new IT, HR and contact centre jobs in Thanet and Folkestone, reports Kent News.

IT: An internet service provider has announced it will be creating 150 new jobs, according to thisisbusiness-eastmidlands.co.uk. Newark-based Timico is planning new corporate headquarters, which will house a major internet infrastructure including a data centre and a state-of-the-art network operations centre.
