Apprentice star Akshay Thakrar answers claim he's been 'director of several dissolved companies'

By Joel Leaver

The Apprentice candidate Akshay Thakrar has responded to the claim that he's been the director of several dissolved companies prior to joining the BBC business competition.

The 28-year-old is among those who are competing on the new series, with him introduced in the opening episode last week as being the owner of a digital marketing agency.

In response to the allegation that he's previously been the director of dissolved firms, he said in a statement: "These companies were simply registered when I was younger."

His comment comes after the Daily Mail published an article earlier this week which outlined the alleged career background of the entrepreneur and Apprentice candidate.

It referenced several companies which it claimed he had been the director of and that had subsequently dissolved. The Mirror was able to find them all on the Companies House website, though one was named slightly differently.

We found that an individual by the name of Akshay Thakrar was appointed director of Vivid Records Limited in 2011. The firm however dissolved via compulsory strike-off in 2013.

Another firm associated with him is Silver Crescent Media Limited. An individual named Akshay Ajay Thakrar was made director in 2014. It dissolved via voluntary strike-off in 2016.

A person with the same name became director of Aumetric Media Ltd in 2014 and resigned in January 2016. The firm dissolved via voluntary strike-off in September 2016.

The same name shows up having been made director of Nativelabs Limited in 2015, though resigned in January 2016. This business also later dissolved via voluntary strike-off in around September 2016.

More recently, an individual with the same name was made director of Roq Media Ltd in March 2017. The company later dissolved via voluntary strike-off in around October 2017.
