An 18-year-old apprentice jockey remains in a critical condition after a race fall at Kalgoorlie on Saturday.

Hannah Fitzgerald was dislodged from her mount, Neurologic, shortly after finishing fourth in race six at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club's last race meeting of the year.

She was treated at Kalgoorlie Health Campus before being airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital with bleeding on her brain.

She remains in an induced coma.

In a statement, Racing and Wagering Western Australia chief executive Ian Edwards said a thorough investigation into the incident was underway.

"The safety and wellbeing of our racing participants is our highest priority," he said.

Mr Edwards said RWWA's thoughts were with Fitzgerald and her family during the difficult time.

"Hannah's parents are with her and we will continue to provide support any way we can," he said.

"We would like to extend our appreciation to those people on-course who assisted Hannah."

Fitzgerald, who is from a pony club background, has ridden 31 winners since her debut in June 2020.

The 18-year-old won the first race on Saturday aboard Aunty Jean.

She landed her first win at Perth's Belmont racecourse just five days after being named Trainee of the Year at the Perth Apprentice Awards.
