Apprentice contestants banned from having phones, cash and calculators during filming

The Apprentice hopefuls are banned from having money and calculators, and their clothing has to be approved by the producers.

They have their phones confiscated and are given locked down phones that don't let them access the internet or maps.

All the phones allow them to do is call their team members.

And every call has to be put on speakerphone so the producers and viewers know every single word that's being said.

The surprising truth about the rigorous processes the contestants have to go through during filming has been revealed in The Sun on Sunday.

Cash, cameras, diaries, and calculators are banned, and phones and bank cards get taken away on the first day of filming and aren't returned until it has ended.

So when we see candidates struggling to do the maths when they are discussing pricing, that's because they have nothing to help them.

A source said: "The candidates sign their lives away."

Last year's runner up Camilla Ainsworth spoke to MirrorOnline about what it's really like filming the show.

Camilla wouldn't say exactly how long the process took, but she said they filmed one task after another rather than doing one a week.

She said: "People think it's very easy and you do one day a week, but that's really not the case.

"For the doughnuts task we started at 3am and we got home at 11pm.

"You're just filming all the way through and you just eat whenever you can."

Lots of fans question whether the candidates actually get up when that phone call comes in, or if they have a pre-warning about when the day will start.

But according to Camilla that loud, annoying ringing really is how they get the information for the day.

"I could never hear the phone from my room, but I would hear everyone's footsteps and someone would shout "20 minutes".

And because they have no internet, they are completely reliant on the maps and directories we see them desperately flicking through in the back of the cabs.
