A RECOVERY co-ordinator should take control of the government's response to Stockton's beach erosion crisis, the NSW Opposition Leader says.

Jodi McKay and Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp are visiting the embattled suburb on Wednesday, a day after tensions flared in question time over the Berejiklian government's response to the issue.

Labor is seeking a state recovery co-ordinator to take carriage of whole of government crisis response.

The Opposition argues that response should include assisting City of Newcastle with repairs, stabilisation, beach replenishment.

It should also involve collaboration to speed up the delivery of a long-term coastal management program, Ms McKay said.

"Hundreds of people from all across the community came here last Sunday crying out for the government to take some action here," Ms McKay said.

"Labor is offering a way forward through our three point plan, it's time for the Premier to work with us and the people of Newcastle to save Stockton beach."

"We need to see action from the Premier, not the bluster in the parliament we saw yesterday."
