Applications for volunteers of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics began to be accepted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
Officials of the Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Tokyo metropolitan government said volunteering would be a valuable opportunity to support the Games and an experience to treasure for a lifetime. The entities are asking for as many applications as possible.
About 80,000 openings are available for "Games Volunteers," who will directly assist in day-to-day operations at the Games. To apply for the position, visit the committee's website at https://tokyo2020.org/jp/special/volunteer/.
Meanwhile, there are 20,000 openings for "City Volunteers," who will be tasked with guiding visitors and tourists at airports and stations. To apply for this position, visit the Tokyo Metropolitan Volunteerism Navigation Website managed by the Tokyo metropolitan government at http://www.city-volunteer.metro.tokyo.jp/.
"City Volunteer" applications can also be sent via mail or fax. Applications for both positions must be received by early December.
Volunteers for the two positions will be selected by September 2019, with training scheduled to start in October 2019.
