The government on Monday began accepting applications at municipal offices across the country for vaccine certificates for people traveling abroad. Those who present a certificate that shows they have been vaccinated against COVID-19 will be able to receive preferential treatment, such as an exemption or relaxation of waiting times and virus tests upon entry in some countries.
The preferential treatment is available in Italy, Austria, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Poland. In addition, in South Korea, vaccine certificates will be recognized as one of the documents required to apply for an exemption from waiting at the time of entry.
The government is also making arrangements with other nations to further expand the number of nations eligible for the preferential treatment. Meanwhile, quarantine measures such as waiting at the time of entry into Japan will not be eased even with the vaccine certificates.
Those who wish to obtain a vaccine certificate should present their application form, passport, and the proof of vaccination given at the time of inoculation to the municipal office, or send those by mail. There is no charge for the issuance of the certificate, and it can be issued as early as the same day.
