'Apples of his eye': Wollombi crash victim remembered as family man

David Bailey.

A Newcastle motorcyclist who died when he collided with a car at Wollombi last weekend is being remembered as a man who loved his family and his motorbikes.

David Bailey, 52, died at the scene of the tragic crash on Great North Road on Saturday morning.

His older sister Rona Bell told the Newcastle Herald that Mr Bailey was someone who always had a story ready to tell.

She said his wife was the love of his life and his daughters were "the apples of his eye".

Ms Bell said her brother loved to spend weekends with his family - travelling NSW with his girls and their dog for fly ball events and had been an avid motorcycle enthusiast since he was six years old.

"I remember one Christmas that we got new motorbikes and all the gear from Santa, mum found Dave asleep in bed wearing his helmet," she said.

"Dave was a dad that would drive his girls to dancing or singing rehearsals and sit in the carpark waiting for them to finish.

"He absolutely loved his family."
