Apple Watch Series 4: Completely re-designed new 'ECG' smartwatch unveiled as price, photos and release date revealed

Apple has revealed its brand new Watch, featuring a complete re-design of the wearable's look.

It has created a screen that sweeps all the way across the front of the Watch. And it does so while making the Watch as a whole smaller, slimming it down and allowing it to be smaller.

The company has also re-designed the faces that appear on the Watch, to take advantage of the vastly increased amount of information that can be shown on the improved screen.

Apple said that "every detail" of the Watch had been reimagined as part of the new design.

Apple's Jeff Williams said the Apple Watch has become an "intelligent guardian" for user health through its health and fitness features, and revealed the new device had improved sensors which can now detect if a user falls, and notify key contacts if necessary.

The new device will now also be able to detect low or irregular heart rate and alert users, as well as carry out an electrocardiogram (ECG) - something Mr Williams said was a smartwatch first.

It can also detect if people have a fall, using improved sensors.

Once detecting a fall, the Apple Watch triggers an SOS feature that allows you to contact emergency services. If no motion is detected for one minute, the watch will automatically contact them for you.

"Fall detection is a feature that we hope you'll never need," Williams says, "but it's really nice to know it's there."

The GPS version of the Watch starts at $399, and it is $499 for the cellular version of the Watch. It will also keep the older Series 3 from last year in the market, and sell it for only $279.

The Watch can be pre-ordered from Friday, and will go on sale the following Friday.
