Apple Watch now tracks your periods and tells you when you're fertile

Apple is launching a new period-tracking feature that will allow users to record their menstrual cycles and receive notifications when they are fertile.

Known as Cycle Tracking, the app will be available on the iPhone, within the Health app, and on the Apple Watch as a standalone app.

It provides a "simple discreet way to visualise your cycle", helping users understand "what's normal for you", according to Apple.

Users will be able to log symptoms, get notifications when their period is about to start, or when they are entering their fertile window.

The new feature will be released as part of watchOS 6 later this year.

The announcement is bad news for apps such as Clue, EVA and Natural Cycles, which already offer period-tracking features on the iPhone.

Unlike these apps, Apple said all data collected through the Cycle Tracking app will be stored locally on the Apple Watch or iPhone, meaning it can't be shared with third parties.
