Apple warns iPhone users to download latest update due to hacker fears

Apple is urging iPhone and iPad users to download their latest software update after a recent security glitch "may have been actively exploited."

The latest update for iOS 14 has been rolled out for both devices and according to a support page on Apple's website, the flaws were reported by an anonymous researcher.

The first warning states that a "malicious application may be able to elevate privileges. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited" while a second warning says that "a remote attacker may be able to cause arbitrary code execution."

In a statement, the tech giant said: "For our customers' protection, Apple doesn't disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available. Recent releases are listed on the Apple security updates page.

The company said that additional details will be available soon.

To update your iPhone or iPad to iOS 14.4, users can go to Settings, General then Software Update.

The new update on iOS 14 also provides the ability for phones to recognize smaller QR codes, and fixes to the keyboard, typing and the Fitness widget.

Further information about the security threats can be found here.
