Apple unveils new iPad Air 4 with Touch ID integrated in top button

Apple has unveiled its brand new iPad Air during its Time Flies event in California today.

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said: “Today we’re excited to introduce a completely redesigned and far more powerful iPad Air, debuting Apple’s most powerful chip ever made, the A14 Bionic.

"With its gorgeous new all-screen design, larger 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display, next-generation Touch ID, and a massive boost in performance with A14 Bionic, the new iPad Air brings customers powerful pro features at an even more affordable price.

"Along with major upgrades to the iPad Pro and eighth-generation iPad this year, and the powerful new features of iPadOS 14, this is our strongest iPad lineup ever, giving our customers even more ways to enrich their daily lives.”

The new iPad features an all-screen liquid retina display, measuring 10.9-inches.

Customers can choose from five stunning colour options, including rose gold, green and sky blue, as well as the more standard light and dark grey options.

The biggest change is to Apple's Touch ID system.

While users previously unlocked their iPad using a Touch ID button at the bottom of the screen, this sensor has been moved into the top button for the first time.

This allows for a larger 10.9-inch display.

Its loaded with an A14 chip, allowing for a faster neural engine, making the iPad even more powerful for machine learning.

Amazingly, the chip can perform 11 trillion operations in just one second!

The new iPad also features a USB-C cable, providing a faster connection to external devices.

The front camera has a 7MP lens, while the rear camera has a 12MP camera.

The new Air also works with several accessories - the Apple Pencil and floating keyboard.

In terms of price, the iPad will start at $599 and will be available from next month.
