Apple trade-in values just dropped — here's what you'll get for your old iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch

Sage iPhone 17 in hand.

If you were planning on trading in an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch anytime soon, I have some bad news.

As it has been known to do at various points throughout history, Apple has just lowered the value of all its trade-ins, with MacRumors reporting an average drop of around 20%. In other words, the old devices you have rattling around the back of your cabinets aren't worth as much anymore — not to Apple, anyway.

Another point of note is that if you have an old MacBook (as in the Apple laptop called MacBook rather than MacBook Air or MacBook Pro) you're no longer able to trade that in. But considering Apple hasn't released a new model since 2019, that's not hugely surprising.

While it sucks that Apple has decided these devices are all worth a little less it's easy to understand why. The company just released a whole new range of products, including the iPhone 17 series, Apple Watch series 11, iPad Pro M5 and the MacBook Pro M5. Now that the initial waves of sales, and trade-ins, are over, it makes perfect sense that Apple would devalue the likes of iPhone 16 and M4-powered devices.

No doubt Apple will be doing the same thing in the near future, following the release of iPhone 18 and all the other devices rumored to be going on sale before the end of 2026.

How much you get actually depends on the condition of the device in question, and the worse the condition, the less you'll get. Apple has a tool to find out roughly how much your device will be worth on its website, which can give you a more accurate price. But for now, here's how much you'll get for trading in your old Apple products. Assuming they're all in good

Apple trade-ins — what are they worth now?

Older iPhones are still eligible for trade-in, going back as far as the iPhone 8, though the older the device, the less it's worth. An iPhone 8, for example, is now only worth $40 — down from $45.

Naturally, newer devices, like iPhone 16e and the iPhone 17 series, are currently ineligible for trade-in. Because what would you buy?

The obvious elephant in the room is that the Mac Pro's trade-in value has skyrocketed by almost $2,000. Which... doesn't seem like it should be the case?

Even if Apple were trying to reclaim these machines for whatever reason, it's unlikely it would be offering quite so much. So we suspect this is a typo for the time being.
