Apple's MacBook Pro laptops have long been praised for their premium quality, but there are areas where they can be improved. The current lineup is seen as lagging behind Windows-powered competitors in terms of certain features like form factors, peripheral support, and displays. One key missing feature that Apple has yet to adopt is touchscreen support, despite Windows devices offering this functionality for over two decades.

In terms of display technology, Apple has mainly stuck to using LCD and mini-LED screens. However, there are reports indicating a shift towards OLED displays for future MacBook models. OLED panels offer advantages such as deeper blacks and more vibrant colors, while also consuming less power compared to LCD and mini-LED panels. This change in display technology is expected to bring the MacBook lineup in line with its competitors and offer users a significant upgrade.

Although the current M3 generation of MacBook Pro models is still using mini-LED technology, it is unlikely that we will see OLED-equipped MacBooks until 2025. The release of an OLED-equipped MacBook is further delayed by the impact of Samsung's supply chain, which may not be felt until 2027.

Furthermore, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) hardware into Apple's silicon chips is also on the horizon. The upcoming A18 chipset for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro is expected to introduce AI hardware, with similar enhancements planned for the next-generation M4 chipsets for the Mac platform. This AI-focused hardware is likely to significantly impact the performance of future MacBook models.

For consumers considering upgrading to a new MacBook, the decision to wait for OLED displays and AI-focused enhancements may be a wise move. While it may be challenging for those eager to join Apple's ecosystem, skipping this year's upgrade to acquire a MacBook with OLED display technology and AI hardware could provide a more future-proof solution for the next five years or more.

In conclusion, Apple's MacBook lineup is poised to undergo significant improvements in the coming years, with advancements in display technology and the integration of AI hardware likely to enhance user experience and performance. Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming MacBook models and the latest Apple innovations.
