More news regarding Apple's (AAPL) HomePod surfaced Tuesday.
Last week, the release of the HomePod, a home speaker/assistant device, was delayed by the tech titan until 2018.
"We can't wait for people to experience HomePod, Apple's breakthrough wireless speaker for the home, but we need a little more time before it's ready for our customers," Apple had told TheStreet.
On Tuesday, a report from Bloomberg indicated that when Apple does indeed ship the devices, it will initially roll out 4 million units. "Apple has told suppliers it expects to ship four million HomePods in 2018," the report said. Shares of Apple were spiking nearly 2% in mid-morning trading on Tuesday.
The HomePod, first unveiled in June, illustrates Apple's move into the smart speaker device, dominated by Amazon.com's (AMZN) Alexa and Alphabet's (GOOGL) Google Assistant. For comparison, Amazon has sold an estimated 15 million Alexa units since the e-commerce giant launched them in 2015, according to analysts at CIRP LLC.
Apple's device, however, is said to be much more focused on giving the user the best digital music experience.
