Apple's iOS 17.3 release expected soon with Stolen Device Protection

The next iPhone software release will be iOS 17.3, with Stolen Device Protection.

Apple is preparing to release its next iPhone software update, iOS 17.3. This update comes with a significant new feature called Stolen Device Protection, which aims to protect users in case their iPhone gets stolen and the thief knows the passcode. With this feature, the thief's options to access personal information and invade bank accounts are greatly limited. While iOS 17.3 is currently in beta, it is expected to be released in the near future.

The beta testing for iOS 17.3 has seen some bumps along the way. The second beta version, released on January 3, had to be quickly removed due to a bug that caused iPhones to enter a perpetual boot loop. After a week-long delay, Apple released a revised version, now known as iOS 17.3 beta 3, to developers. The public beta, named iOS 17.3 public beta 3, was also made available on January 10.

The exact release date for the final version of iOS 17.3 remains uncertain due to the previous issues. Some speculation suggested a release as early as January 16, but that now seems unlikely. The following week starting January 22 is a possibility, but we believe it is more likely to be the week commencing January 29. Apple typically prefers to release updates on a Tuesday, so Tuesday, January 30, stands out as a potential date.

Apple may aim for an earlier release to avoid delays in subsequent software releases. However, the company may also have taken this opportunity to make additional changes during the delay caused by the beta 2 boot loop problem. Considering the upcoming sale of Apple Vision Pro on February 2, it is reasonable to assume that iOS 17.3 will be released before that date.

Update as of January 13: The question of when iOS 17.3 will be released to the general public, without any betas, is being closely examined. Some indications suggest a potential release in the week of January 22. This timeline aligns with previous iOS .3 releases and the fact that the second and third betas of iOS 17.3 did not introduce any notable additions. If a release candidate version appears next week, starting January 15, it is likely that iOS 17.3 will be released the following week, starting January 22, possibly on Tuesday, January 23. Otherwise, the week commencing January 30 remains a strong candidate for release.

In conclusion, iOS 17.3 is on its way, with an impressive Stolen Device Protection feature. While the release date is still uncertain, it is expected to be within the next few weeks, potentially in late January. Apple enthusiasts eagerly await this update, which promises enhanced security and functionality for iPhone users.
