Apple releases iOS 27 Public Beta: How to download, compatible iPhones and new features

Apple has released the public beta of iOS 27, giving users an early look at the software ahead of its official rollout in September alongside the iPhone 18 lineup.

Apple first unveiled iOS 27 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) last month, when it also released the developer beta.

If you're planning to install the update, keep in mind that this is a beta release and may contain bugs or performance issues. Apple also recommends against installing it on your primary device.

How to download iOS 27 public beta

  • Visit beta. apple. com and register your Apple ID for Apple's Beta Software Program.
  • On your iPhone, open Settings > General > Software Update.
  • Tap Beta Updates and select iOS 27 Public Beta.
  • Go back to the Software Update screen and tap Download and Install to begin the update.

What's new in iOS 27?

The biggest highlight of iOS 27 is Apple's next-generation Apple Intelligence, led by an all-new Siri AI that can understand personal context, search across Messages, Mail and Photos, perform actions across apps, answer questions about what's on your screen and fetch up-to-date information from the web. Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app with conversation history synced across devices via iCloud.

Beyond AI, iOS 27 also delivers several performance improvements. Apple says apps launch up to 30% faster, photos load up to 70% quicker after being captured and AirDrop transfers are up to 80% faster. The update also introduces a customisable Liquid Glass interface, smarter image editing in Photos, AI-powered enhancements to Safari, Mail and Messages, improved parental controls and Screen Time tools, menopause tracking in the Health app, Custom EQ for AirPods, AI-enhanced Flyover in Apple Maps and full-resolution iCloud Shared Albums.
