Apple recall MacBook Pro following fire safety concerns

Technology giant Apple is recalling a MacBook Pro after confirming there are fears a limited number could pose a safety risk.

According to the Apple website, the company has determined that in a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery could overheat and pose a danger.

The company says the affected units were mostly sold between September 2015 and February 2017.

Customers are advised the product eligibility is determined by the product serial number.

Following the news, the company has said it will replace all affected batteries for free.

How do I know I'm eligible for a free battery?

Start off by checking which 15-inch MacBook Pro you own.

In the upper-left corner of the screen you'll find 'About This Mac' in the Apple menu.

See if your model is called "MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)."

If it is, you need to enter your computer's serial number on the Apple website to see if the battery needs to be replaced.

If it does, you need to stop using the device and replace the battery.

How do I replace the battery?

According to Apple, you need to select one of the following options to get the battery replaced.

All options will involve the device being sent to an Apple Repair Center for a service.

It will also need to be examined before any service can take place to make sure it's fit for the program.

A service can take between one and two weeks to complete.

These are the recommendations according to Apple.

Prior to a service you must always back up your data, and the program is only to carry out battery replacements.
