Apple issues iPhone warning to Irish customers as criminals hijack devices without key update

Apple’s latest update is recommended for any Irish customer that does not want their iphone to be accessible to hackers due to a bug related to a prior update.

The California-based company issued the iOS 15.4.1 update, along with a warning to install changes now to all of its customers across the globe.

Cyber security experts say that’s because iOS 15.4.1 comes with a security fix for a major issue that is already being used by fraudsters to attack iPhones.

Although it doesn’t give a lot of detail about what’s fixed in iOS 15.4.1, there are reports everywhere suggesting there have been attacks on phones - and so all customers are being told to make the latest changes.

According to Apple’s support page, iOS 15.4.1 fixes a vulnerability in Apple AVD, which could allow an application to execute arbitrary code with ‘kernel privileges.’

Apple says it is “aware of a report that the issue may have been actively exploited.”

Cyber security researcher, Sean Wright, told Forbes that the impact of the vulnerability is “as severe as they come.

“Anything that has the ability to execute commands with kernel privileges allows an attacker to have full control over the device.”

Mr. Wright says; There’s no doubt the issue is serious, and so all customers should take the time to update their device as soon as they can.

There is no further information at this point about who has been targeted by the attack or how to find out if you’re a victim.

It’s expected that more information will come to light in the coming weeks or months, “but for now everyone should update their iPhones and iPads to iOS 15.4.1 as soon as they can,” Mr. Wright said.

Apple’s iOS 15.4.1 also comes with a fix for a battery issue that many people had complained about since updating to iOS 15.4.
