Apple is hosting a 'secret event' next month to unveil budget iPhone, insider claims

It’s only been five months since its last launch event, but it seems that Apple is already planning its next smartphone launch.

A new report by iPhone Ticker suggests that Apple is planning a ‘secret event’ on March 31 where it could unveil a budget iPhone.

iPhone Ticker cites someone ‘directly from the Apple environment’ in its report.

It said: “The launch of a new device, which is almost certainly the expected successor to the iPhone SE, is planned for Friday, April 3.

“At the beginning of the previous week, the presentation should then take place as part of a press event, in all likelihood Tuesday, March 31st is scheduled for this.”

If the rumoured date is correct it would fit in well with previous launch dates. In 2019 Apple hosted its spring event on March 25, while the 2018 event was on March 27.

During the spring event, Apple is rumoured to reveal several new gadgets - most notably a budget iPhone expected to be called the iPhone 9.

According to leaks, this smartphone will be a successor to the iPhone SE which launched back in 2016, and will retail at £399.

iPhone Ticker wrote: “It is almost certain that Apple will probably launch a comparatively inexpensive iPhone model under the name ‘iPhone 9’, which relies on the design of the iPhone 8, but in terms of processor and RAM is brought up to date.”

Apple is also rumoured to launch a new iPad Pro at the event, as well as Tile-style trackers dubbed Apple AirTags.

Finally, some rumours suggest that Apple could launch budget AirPods to go with the iPhone 9, although details on the earphones are scarce.

As with most rumours, Apple is remaining tight-lipped, although Mirror Online has contacted the tech giant for comment.
