Apple developing physical 'tag' to help you track your things using your iPhone

For people who are constantly forgetting their keys or wallets, Apple's next product could be a godsend.

The tech company is rumoured to be working on a physical tag that will help users track their items using their iPhones.

Similar to Tile, the tag - known only as "B389" by the people involved in its development - can be attached to any item, according to a report in 9to5Mac .

It will connect to the user's iCloud account via their iPhone, and issue an alert whenever their device gets too far away from the tag.

iOS 13 will bring DARK MODE and new 'undo' gesture to Apple iPhone and iPad

Users will be able to create a list of "ignored" locations, so that they can leave the item at those locations without being alerted.

The device could also help users find lost items, by acting like a digital "luggage tag".

Users will be able to store their contact information in the tag, which can be read by any Apple device when the tag is put into "lost mode".

When the item is found, the tag will automatically send a notification to the owner's iPhone, enabling them to get it back.

It's unclear when Apple plans to launch the device, but 9to5Mac said it could be as early as this September, when the company is expected to release its new iPhones .

Apple is also reportedly working on a new app, codenamed "GreenTorch", which will replace the Find My Friends and Find My iPhone apps, combining the functionality of the two.

The app, which is is currently being tested by engineers at the company, allows devices to be tracked even when not connected to Wi-Fi or to a cellular network.

Users will also be able to create notifications for when a friend who is sharing their location arrives at or leaves a specific place.
