Apple could kill off iTunes after 18 years 'within days' in big rebrand

It’s the go-to music service for many people, but it seems that Apple could soon kill off iTunes.

The tech giant is expected to wind down iTunes, in an attempt to rebrand its entertainment services.

Eagle-eyed fans have noticed that photos, videos and posts have been deleted from the iTunes Facebook page, and content has instead been moved to Apple’s Apple TV page.

This indicates that iTunes, which has been going for 18 years, could soon be a thing of the past.

A report by Bloomberg explained: “iTunes has been the way Apple users listen to music, watch movies and TV shows, hear podcasts, and manage their devices for almost two decades.

“This year, Apple is finally ready to move into a new era.

“The company is launching a trio of new apps for the Mac – Music, TV, and Podcasts – to replace iTunes.”

The decision to kill off iTunes could be part of a project, codenamed Marzipan, which aims to make it easier for developers to design apps that work with with either a touchscreen or mouse and trackpad.

Other rumours suggest that Apple could allow users to use their iPads as second screens for their Macs.

Thankfully, we don’t have long to wait to find out what Apple has planned.

The firm’s annual WWDC developer conference begins today, where it’s expected to shed light on its new operating systems, and potentially new hardware.
