Apple Card could be damaged by jeans, going in leather wallets or touching other cards, company warns

Apple's new credit card could get damaged by leather wallets, denim jeans and even other credit cards, the company has warned.

Instead it should simply be lightly placed into its own holder, such as a "bag made of soft materials" to keep it safe, Apple says.

Apple's credit card largely exists on the iPhone, being integrated with its Wallet feature to enable people to pay just by holding up their phone. But if people want to pay in shops that don't take contactless technology, they can get a real, physical credit card that can be swiped and is made out of titanium.

Despite sounding robust, the card could be damaged by contact with a wide variety of materials and surfaces.

If it does get damaged, owners are advised to wipe it with a "soft, slightly damp, lint-free microfiber cloth". It certainly should not be cleaned with "window or household cleaners, compressed air, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, or abrasives", Apple warns.

But some discolourations might never clean off, it says. "Some fabrics, like leather and denim, might cause permanent discoloration that will not wash off," the company's instructions warn.

Apple also warns owners that the card should not go near magnets or keys.

"Don't place or store your titanium Apple Card card near magnets," it warns. "If your card is placed close to a magnetic latch on a purse or bag, the magnetic strip can become demagnetized.

"Don't place your titanium Apple Card in a pocket or bag that contains loose change, keys, or other potentially abrasive objects."
