Apple announces latest event to reveal new software updates for all its products

Apple has invited the world to watch its Worldwide Developers Conference keynote, during which it will show off updates for all of its products.

The annual event is Apple's biggest software launch, where it reveals the future of the company.

All of its operating systems – for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and TV – will get updates that will be revealed at the event. New features are also expected to be revealed, and Apple might even opt to show off new hardware, too.

The event will begin on 3 June. It will start at 10am local pacific time, or 6pm in London.

It will almost certainly be streamed live, as well as covered by the minute on The Independent.

The invitation refers to the keynote as a "special event", in line with all of Apple's announcements.

Apple's keynote invites often include clues to what might – though they are also often red herrings.

The invitations sent out to press include a neon emoji illuminating a dark background. That same scheme is also being offered in the official WWDC app.

It might suggest that rumours Apple will be rolling out a dark mode for iOS are true. Such a feature has long been said to be coming to the iPhone, having debuted in the Mac last year.

iOS 13 is also rumoured to bring a whole host of other improvements, including updates to the stock apps, changes to the way the iPhone shows health information, and major new updates for iPads.
