Appeal to trace man wanted in connection with fatal crash in Manchester almost 18 years ago

Members of the public are being urged to help traced a wanted man over the death of Simon Collins in Manchester city centre almost 18 years ago.

Mohammed Rasulzai, 41, who is originally from Kabul in Afghanistan according to police, is wanted in connection with 23-year-old Mr Collins' death in December 2002.

Greater Manchester Police issued the appeal and said he is wanted "in connection with an incident of causing death by dangerous driving that took place on Oxford Road in the University area of Manchester on Wednesday 18 December 2002.

The incident happened near The Academy music venue.

He is also wanted for failing to appear at Manchester Crown Court in 2003 (MEN Media)

Simon, who lived in Fallowfield and was orginally from Staffordshire, was taken to hospital with multiple injuries, but sadly died two days later.

Although he was studying in Manchester, it's believed he was on a year out from academia at the time.

Rasulzai is also wanted for failing to appear at Manchester Crown Court for this offence on Monday 1 September 2003. Although the picture is 18 years old, it is hoped people will be able to recognise him.

Greater Manchester Police said it is believed he is also known by the names of Mohammed Habib, Rasulzai Mohammed, or Habib Rasulzai.

He has links to Greater Manchester, West Midlands, and Cambridgeshire.

Anybody with information regarding the whereabouts of Mohammed Rasulzai is asked to contact police on 0161 856 6197 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
