Appeal to find owner of pet ferret found roaming East Lothian streets

Animal rescue chiefs in East Lothian have launched an appeal to trace the owner of a ferret found abandoned in the street before putting the animal up for adoption.

Workers were called out to retrieve the white female ferret on May 14 after locals in Tranent discovered the stray scurrying around the streets.

Rescue workers at the Scottish SPCA Edinburgh and Lothians centre are now caring for the animal while efforts to track down its owners can be made.

But they have warned the pet could be put up for rehoming if no one is located to claim the animal.

While they are more popular as pets in the United States, the number of ferret owners in the UK has risen in recent years.

The charity's Edinburgh and Lothians manager, Diane Aitchison, has now appealed for the owner to come forward.

She said, “We are still trying to trace the owner of a ferret who was found in Tranent on 14 May.

“She is in good condition so it is likely someone is missing her.

“We are only able to hold stray animals that come into our care for seven days before we try and rehome them.

“If you think this ferret might be your pet, or have any relevant information, please contact our centre on 03000 999 999.”
