Appeal launched to trace £19,000 bronze statue stolen from world-famous Badminton Horse Trials

A police appeal for information has been launched after a large bronze statue was stolen from a trade stand at Badminton Horse Trials in South Gloucestershire overnight.

The figure is believed to have a value of £19,000 and was made by Somerset artist Jan Sweeny. It is positioned on a hamstone base and measures 135cm in height.

PC Matt Leigh said: “Being bronze, the statue weighs a considerable amount and so it’s likely more than one person was involved in removing it from the trade stand it was on display at.

“We’re keen to hear from anyone who may have seen it being removed or transported and are also asking those at Badminton today to keep an eye out for it.

Avon and Somerset police ask anyone with information which could help to recover the statue and find those responsible for the theft, to contact them.

Please call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5222108421 , or complete the online appeals form here. You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their Anonymous Online Form.
