Appeal launched for grieving blind mum-of-five after husband dies of coronavirus

An appeal has been launched for a blind woman whose husband died from coronavirus.

Anab Cabdalla, 45, and her five children are grieving for father Haile who died on April 28 at Hammersmith Hospital in London.

The widow, who has been blind since she was seven, cannot work due to her disability and is unable to support herself or her children financially.

Family friend Muna Ahmed has launched a GoFundMe appeal to help the heartbroken family as they come to terms with their loss.

The fundraiser said: "Anab Cabdalla is a blind mother of five experiencing a great loss.

"Unfortunately, her husband and father to her children, Haile, has passed away as a result of COVID-19 on the 28th of April in Hammersmith Hospital.

"Anab is now widowed and unable to work as a result of her disability.

"Due to her husband’s death, she is unable to support herself financially."

Muna described Anab as an "inspiring" woman who has "never allowed her disability to hold her back."

Muna told the Mirror Online: "She has inspired 2,000 people in the Somali community through her phone conferences.

"She has 5 children who are in need of financial support so I set up a GoFundMe fundraiser on her behalf."

So far the appeal has raised £4,715 from 337 friends and family members, many of whom belong to west London's tightly-knit Somali community.

The hospital death toll today reached 28,396 after another 111 coronavirus patients passed away with the virus.

A further 90 people have died in hospitals in England. Public Health Wales says a further 12 people have died, and in Scotland nine more patients have died while three fatalities were confirmed in Northern Ireland.
