Appeal for witnesses after stolen dumper truck driven at cash machine in Airdrie

Police are appealing for information after two men tried to drive a dumper truck into a cash machine in Airdrie.

The incident happened around 1:20am earlier this morning (Sunday, February 16) outside Tesco Express on Connor Street.

The suspects attempted to drive the stolen truck at a cash machine and hit a bollard before running away. Nobody was injured.

The two suspects are described as wearing dark clothing. It's believed the truck was stolen from a construction site on Dunrobin Road shortly before the incident on Connor Street.

Sergeant Scott Robertson, of Airdrie Police Station, said: "We're appealing to the public who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously around the site on Dunrobin Road.

"We're also appealing to anyone who saw the men after the truck was driven at the cash machine and equally, anyone who has any information about this incident".

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 338 of 16 February 2020 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
