Appeal for information after kittens found abandoned on side of Shotts road

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after two kittens and their mum were found abandoned at the side of Allanton Road in Shotts.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was contacted by a concerned member of the public who discovered the cats on the A71 on September 9.

Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer Dawn Juma said: “The female cat was found with her two offspring inside a cage off a busy road.

“They had been left on the eastbound side of the road heading in the Edinburgh direction.

“We are very grateful to the person who alerted us to the cats and stayed with them until we arrived.

“Upon veterinary examination, the cats were found to be riddled with fleas and had a number of health issues.

“One of the kittens was too sick to recover and on veterinary advice, the sad decision was made to put her to sleep.

“If anyone has any information on how the cats ended up abandoned and in this condition, we would urge them to call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
