Appeal as Edinburgh driver dies after colliding with 'large bin' and parked car

Police are appealing for information following a deadly crash in Edinburgh over the weekend.

The incident happened at around 9:20pm on Sunday night (29 March) in the Marchmont area.

Police say a grey Ford C-Max car collided at low speed with a large bin and a parked silver Ford Fiesta on Spottiswoode Road.

The 56-year-old male driver was discovered in the car by two members of the public who administered first aid until paramedics and emergency services arrived.

The man was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance where he was confirmed dead.

It is understood one else was injured as a result of the crash and the road re-opened shortly after 11pm.

His family have been informed and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Police are now appealing for information in a bid to "trace a route for the car" prior to the collision.

Road Policing

Inspector Roger Park, Edinburgh , said today: "Officers are carrying out enquiries at the moment to trace a route for the car prior to the collision, however, we would be keen to hear from anyone who has not already spoken to officers, who saw the car in Spottiswoode Road prior to the crash, or any information that may assist with the enquiry to contact us via 101.  Please quote reference number 2788 of 29 March, 2020 when calling."
