Scottish SPCA inspector Sian Robertson has urged anyone with information about the pets to get in touch.

She said: “The female cats were found in cat carriers outside an old veterinary practice that has since moved location.

“We are grateful to the person who found them handed them in to a nearby vets where they were checked over.

“Both appear to be in good body condition and neither cat was microchipped.

“A note was left with the cats stating that the owner had been trying to rehome them but was unable to do so.

“It looks like whoever left them tried to leave them with a responsible person but it is still not acceptable to leave animals on the street.

“If anyone has any information, we would urge them to call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
