Appeal after thug threatens shop worker with knife before stealing cash and tobacco

A thug threatened a shop worker in Heywood with a knife before stealing cash and tobacco.

The terrifying incident happened at the Premier Convenience Store on Middleton Road at around 7.10am this morning (Saturday).

Police said a man went into the shop and threatened a worker with a knife.

He then demanded that money be handed over from the till.

The suspect fled the scene with cash and tobacco.

Officers believe he headed in the direction of Manchester Road towards Heywood town centre.

The shop worker was thankfully left uninjured.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident - or the suspect - to come forward.

The man is described as being around 20-years-old, white, around 5'5 in height and of slim build.

He was also wearing light grey jogging bottoms, a navy blue hooded top and white baseball cap.

It is also believed before the robbery he had been in the Charles Street area, close to the Black Swan pub.
