Appeal after masked men with hammers storm Post Office in terrifying robbery

Police have issued an appeal after three masked men stormed a Post Office with hammers in a 'carefully planned' robbery.

The thugs, who were all wearing balaclavas, smashed their way into the shop on Lapwing Lane in Didsbury on Monday evening.

They stole the safe which contained a quantity of cash, GMP said.

No-one was injured in the incident, but a staff member was left 'incredibly shaken'.

Damage was also caused to the front of the shop, which was cordoned off after the incident on Monday night.

The men fled the scene in a white van which has since been found.

Police believe there may have been a dark vehicle driving in tandem with the van.

No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who has any information about the robbery - which happened just before 6.20pm - to come forward.

Detective Inspector Lee Barrow, of GMP's City of Manchester division, said: "This was a carefully planned crime with the offenders coming equipped.

"Although no-one was injured, this was a terrifying incident, and a staff member was left incredibly shaken.

"We are following all available lines of enquiry to identity those responsible.

"If anyone has information or any dashcam footage of the two vehicles that could help police in their investigation please do not hesitate to contact us."

Anyone with information can contact police on 01618566063, quoting incident number 2286 of 17/01/22.

Reports can also be anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
