Appeal after 'man pushes woman down stairs and attacks her on street'

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward after a man allegedly pushed a woman down a staircase and attacked her in the street.

The incident happened on Long Street in Middleton at around 4am last Friday (March 3), police said. A man is believed to have attacked a woman, before pushing her down the stairs and out onto the road.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted assault. He was bailed pending further enquiries.

Police now want any witnesses of the attack to come forward. They believe that someone 'may have shouted from across the street' at the time to try and stop the man.

PC Gyves 19361, from GMP’s Rochdale district, said: "We are appealing for any witnesses who were in the area at the time. We believe that somebody may have shouted from across the street during the assault to try and stop it from continuing.

"If you can help, please call 0161 856 8522 and quote incident number 361-03/03/2023. You can also call the independent charity – Crimestoppers – anonymously on 0800 555 111."
