What’s Going To Happen
They’re the two best teams in the Sun Belt in what should be a preview of the conference championship.
Louisiana has been on a roll, winning four straight since losing the opener against Mississippi State in an interesting fight. The offense might have the fun and the pop with the nation’ best ground game, but it’s the defense that’s coming through time and again to turn games into routes.
The O line has been incredible, the combination o Trey Regas and Elijah Mitchell are leading the charge for a ground game that’s tearing off yards in chunks – the team is averaging over 300 yards per game – and the Appalachian State defense has been just okay.
The Mountaineers are rolling offensively with a line that’s giving everyone time, and an attack that’s not turning the ball over. Ultra-efficient, ASU is capitalizing on everything, and that includes great field position from the tremendous special teams.
Louisiana’s defense will give up points, but it doesn’t get hit for big pass plays. On a strangely-timed Wednesday night game at home, the Ragin’ Cajuns will control the clock on the ground, the defense that’s so good on third downs will come up with just enough stops to hold serve, and it’ll be a big moment for head coach Billy Napier and a program looking to rise up and be the star of the Sun Belt.
It’ll only be Round One, though.
