Apostolos Vellios to become 'best paid' player at Greek side once Nottingham Forest exit is confirmed

Apostolos Vellios is seemingly on the verge of sealing a move away from Nottingham Forest.

The Greece international striker is reportedly expected to complete a free transfer move to Athens-based Atromitos.

Vellios has struggled to make an impact at the City Ground following his near-£1m move from Iraklis Solonika in July 2016, and has a year left on his contract.

The 27-year-old spent the majority of last season on loan at Belgian club Waasland Beveren, scoring just four times in 17 but failed to play a game after mid-March.

Gazzetta report that Vellios will sign a two-year deal after negotiating his release from his contract at Forest, and in the process become the club’s highest paid player.

Should Vellios complete his move to the Superleague club, he’d become the second Forest striker to move to Greece this month, after Algerian international Hillal Soudani moved to Olympiacos – he could come up against the Championship club when the pair meet in pre-season next month.

Vellios’ last outing for Forest came on the final day of the 2017/18 season, when he came off the bench in the Reds’ 3-2 defeat at Bolton Wanderers.

In his 45 games for the Reds, the striker netted eight times.
