Apology issued as Christmas light ceremony is postponed at short notice

Kilwinning Christmas lights switch-on won't take place this week.

Organisers pulled the plug on the festive celebration at short notice last night but no reason was given for the cancellation.

Promoting Kilwinning say the event, set for Thursday night, has been postponed due to circumstances outwith the group's control but no new date for the switch-on has been given yet.

A statement posted on Facebook apologised to the people of the town and thanked them for their understanding.

The post read: "Due to circumstances outwith our control, please be advised that the Christmas Light switch-on event which was scheduled for Thursday night has been postponed.

"We apologies sincerely for letting everyone find out this way, however it is imperative that everyone knows as quickly as possible.

"We will be in touch with everyone involved to advise of a new date.

"Thank you to everyone for your continued support and understanding.

"Please share and keep watching for new date."
