Apology from ScottishPower after power cut affects homes across Wishaw

ScottishPower have apologised to Wishaw customers following a power failure over the weekend.

Hundreds of residents were left without electricity for most of Saturday with homes in Wishaw, Cambusnethan and Waterloo all affected.

One Cambusnethan woman, who asked not to be named, was without power for the majority of the day.

She said: “The whole day was a write-off. We had no power from about 9am until 5.30pm, by which point we had already gone out for dinner as we couldn’t make a cup of tea never mind a meal.

“We also ended up throwing away most of what was in our fridge, so we’re well out of pocket.

“It was terrible, and just not good enough we were left without power for so long. We have two children - one of whom is a baby and we had to boil water in a pan on the gas stove just to make her bottles all day.”

ScottishPower tweeted engineers were investigating an unplanned fault on its High Voltage Network and expected power to be restored by 11.15am.

But it was not until later in the afternoon when power was restored when engineers altered the network to restore supplies in order to carry out repairs.

A ScottishPower spokesperson said: “The fault was reported at around 9.30am due to a cable fault in the area.

“Power was restored to homes around 4pm.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
