Apology after child served grey turkey burger at Perthshire school

Tayside Contracts has said it is “extremely sorry” after an image of a grey turkey burger, which was served at a Perthshire school, was circulated on social media.

The burger had been served to a pupil at Blairgowrie High School on Wednesday, September 4.

The child’s parent then posted the picture on Perth and Kinross Council’s Facebook page, demanding to know if council staff would want to eat it.

Since the photo was posted online, Tayside Contracts, which is responsible for catering services in the region’s schools, has apologised.

Carol Haxton, facilities business manager at Tayside Contracts, said: “On this occasion we clearly fell short of the high standards which we demand of ourselves and for which we are extremely sorry.

“There is no doubt that the burger served on this occasion did not look appetising and portion size was small.”

She added they have learned from this incident, and said kitchen staff are always keen to take on pupil’s feedback.
