A 35-year-old fruits and vegetable agent at the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Yard in Bandipalya here was murdered on Tuesday evening.

According to police, M.J. Ravi was hacked to death in his shop by assailants wielding matchetes and other weapons.

A group of three to four persons is believed to have barged into the shop around 6.30 p.m. and attacked Ravi, causing severe injuries and his death on the spot. His body was found in a pool of blood. The accused disconnected the wires of the CCTV camera, the complaint said.

Senior police officials including Superintendent of Mysuru district police R. Chethan visited the spot. Fingerprint experts and sniffer dog squad were also pressed into service while the body was shifted to the mortuary at Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC and RI) in Mysuru.

A case of murder has been registered in Mysuru South police station based on the complaint by Ravi’s family members.

Additional Commissioner of Police Shivakumar said the reason behind the murder was yet to be ascertained and added that the police was looking for the suspects involved in the crime. However, sources attributed the murder to a business feud.

Ravi hailed from Mahadevapura in Srirangapatna taluk near here, but was residing at Helavarahundi near Uttanahalli at the foot of Chamundi Hills. He leaves behind his wife and three children, besides a sister and his parents.
