A brand-new event, titled Aftershock, is coming to Apex Legends as Season 28 of the game reaches its mid-point. Alongside a fresh Wildcard centered around shields and batteries is Fuse’s Prestige skin, a futuristic biker get up that evolves through three stages.
The mid-season patch notes of Apex Legends always brings exciting, fresh changes to the ever-evolving battle royale, and the Charged Up Wildcard event is no exception. For more details on patch notes and Legend updates, check out our breakdown here.
New Wildcard: Charged Up

New Wildcard events have been a staple of Apex Legends for the past few seasons, bringing unique twists on the battle royale’s classic gameplay. Season 28 is no different with Charged Up, a gamemode that gives everyone a Vortex Shield.
The Vortex Shield has a few abilities for both defense and offense, which should make Charged Up an especially interesting Wildcard event. Not only can the Vortex Shield catch bullets and shoot them right back at the enemy that fired them, but it can also release an EMP Blast to briefly stun nearby enemies and damage nearby placeable items (i.e., Rampart walls or Wattson fences).

These shield abilities cost energy, which can be recharged by collecting EVO, while the EMP Battery is recharged by blocking damage with the Vortex Shield, collecting EVO, or through modifications with Wild Cards acquired throughout a match.
The following nine Wild Cards will be available to pick at replicators across the map:
| Bigger and Better | Greatly increases the size of the Vortex Shield, speeds up deploy and stow time |
| Duck and Cover | Increases the Vortex Shield’s protective area but disables return fire |
| Energy Efficient | EMP Blast costs 50% energy (two uses per charge) |
| Sonic Boom | Upgrades the EMP Blast damage and adds knockback |
| Static Charge | EMP Battery remains fully charged even when used |
| Extra Juice | Revives grant EMP Battery charge |
| Background Process | Adds passive EMP Battery charging that increases while sprinting |
| Kientic Converter | Increases movement speed based on EMP Battery charge percentage |
| Heat Signature | Spend EMP Battery charge to highlight enemies through walls |
Fuse’s Prestige Skin and Aftershock Event Items
The latest Legend to get their very own prestige skin is Fuse, the Aussie grenadier. His prestige skin is full of futuristic biker-vibes, with increasingly extravagant black and silver armor for each level of the mythic skin (with an increasingly majestic beard and ‘stache to match).
The theme of Aftershock is a slick black, techno look with electric blue highlights. Wattson, Ash, Pathfinder, Horizon, Crypto, and Gibraltar are all receiving event skins, with a Lifeline skin available in the free event rewards shop. As for weapons, the EVA-8, Havoc, and CAR will also make an appearance in the event with new skins.
Two rotating sets of rewards will be available throughout the event, with the first round from Mar. 31 to Apr. 10 (Free pack, Lifeline Skin, and a tracker set) and the second from Apr. 10 to Apr. 21 (Free pack and a Lifeline banner frame).
Fuse has been quite overdue for a presitge skin considering how he first debuted in Season 8, but it seems the wait was well worth it for his bombastic final evolution.
