Apes Together Strong: Reddit’s armchair traders invest $350,000 in gorillas

REDDIT’S army of armchair investors have switched focus from GameStop to gorillas using profits from a high-profile squeeze on Wall Street to adopt around 3,500 apes.

The traders — who last month sent the share price of the heavily-shorted US video game retailer from $20 to a peak of $350 in buying raids co-ordinated on the WallStreetBets forum — have handed the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund more than $350,000 this week.

Its president Dr Tara Stoinski paid tribute by adding one of the channel’s many catchphrases — “apes together strong” — to the charity’s website.

She said: “In a typical weekend, we might get 20 new adoptions. They have made a real difference.”
