Apartments planned in Beeston rejected after it was deemed to be 'out of character' with the area

New apartments planned in Beeston have been turned down as the project was deemed "out of character with the area".

Plans for up to 10 apartments in Queens Road were rejected earlier this month.

A Broxtowe Borough Council spokesman said: "The planning committee refused permission for the application on Queens Road at their meeting on March 13, 2019, as they believed the application to be out of character with the area due to its scale and associated parking problems."

Dino Labbate, director of Swish Architecture Ltd, said: “Our client’s scheme for the development of 10 new apartments at Queens Road in Beeston had the full support of planning officers at Broxtowe Borough Council.

"The application received no objection from the highways department.

"The scheme has been significantly altered following earlier feedback from the council, in order to fully overcome all of the issues raised.

"Sadly, the planning committee decided to overturn the recommendation of the planning officers.

"Regardless, we are confident in the quality of our scheme in its current state.

"We are in the process of appealing the committee decision and we hope to receive a positive outcome within the six months.”
